Why the growth of knowledge is unpredictable in principle
Because knowledge creation is a genuine act of creation, future knowledge cannot be forecast — if you could predict the invention you would already have made it. Naval adds that pessimistic worldviews are usually straight-line extrapolations of negative trends that leave out the positive trends creativity produces.

Naval argues value sits in the knowing entity, not in the thing. Oil is worthless without refining and combustion; a signal broadcast into space is just modulated electromagnetic frequencies unless a creature can decode it. Resources are created by knowledge rather than found.

A failed experiment doesn't refute a theory unless you have a rival
Brett Hall explains the crucial test: an experiment that separates two viable theories. Eddington's eclipse did not prove general relativity, it refuted Newton's gravitation. Where only one theory exists, a conflicting result more often means the test is flawed — which is what has happened every time relativity appeared to fail.

Two dots, one line — a live demo that certainty lies
Brett Hall runs a do-it-yourself experiment: draw two dots on paper and count the unique straight lines through them. The obvious answer is one, and it feels certain. Bend the paper into three dimensions and push a pen through both dots and you have a second straight line. The point is the feeling of certainty, not the geometry.

Monty Hall makes you feel clever — it won't make you creative
Naval walks through Monty Hall, then scales it to a hundred doors where switching is obviously right. People take that as proof that updating priors is what smart people do. Brett Hall concedes Bayesianism is a powerful, uncontroversial tool in medicine and finite problems, but it cannot generate new explanations because you cannot enumerate the possible theories.
