Objecting to the multiverse because it cannot be observed misunderstands science. Nobody has seen a dinosaur, only ossified bone interpreted into a story. Nobody has seen the core of the sun, the Big Bang, or continents moving. Almost everything of interest in science is unobserved or inferred through instruments.

Brett Hall explains the crucial test: an experiment that separates two viable theories. Eddington's eclipse did not prove general relativity, it refuted Newton's gravitation. Where only one theory exists, a conflicting result more often means the test is flawed — which is what has happened every time relativity appeared to fail.

Brett Hall runs a do-it-yourself experiment: draw two dots on paper and count the unique straight lines through them. The obvious answer is one, and it feels certain. Bend the paper into three dimensions and push a pen through both dots and you have a second straight line. The point is the feeling of certainty, not the geometry.
